An Editorial Initiative Begins with Diario de un aprendiz de música

On November 21, 2018, the Global Institute for Music Research (GIMUR) officially launched its publishing project with the release of Diario de un aprendiz de música, written by Jordi Albert and Oded Medina.

The publication marked an important step in GIMUR’s institutional development, opening a new space for editorial work within its broader academic and artistic mission. With this first book, the institute began shaping a publishing initiative aimed at contributing to reflection, research, and the circulation of ideas in the field of music.

The book is designed as a practical tool for both teachers and students, though its central focus is on the learner’s own development. For music teachers, it offers a framework for following each student’s progress more closely and documenting key aspects of the learning process over time. For students, however, the book is especially intended to foster metacognitive skills: helping them reflect on how they practise, identify difficulties, recognize patterns in their learning, and gradually take greater ownership of their musical development. In this way, it supports a more conscious, organized, and self-regulated approach to study.

As the first title in this new editorial stage, Diario de un aprendiz de música represented both a symbolic and strategic milestone for GIMUR, signaling its commitment to knowledge production and cultural dissemination through publishing.
