On February 3, 2018, the Global Institute for Music Research (GIMUR) launches The Young Trumpet Studio as an experimental research laboratory focused on the development of new pedagogical approaches for early childhood music education.
Conceived as a space for innovation, the project is designed to explore how instrumental learning can be introduced at early stages through methodologies adapted to the cognitive, physical, and artistic development of young students. Rather than following traditional models, the initiative emphasizes the need to rethink how musical instruments are taught in childhood, integrating creativity, body awareness, and progressive technical development.
The project brings together performers, educators, and researchers who collaborate to test and refine new teaching strategies. Special attention is given to the role of the instrument as a tool for broader musical understanding, fostering not only technical skills but also listening, expression, and engagement with sound from an early age.
Within GIMUR’s framework, The Young Trumpet Studio operates as a pilot platform connecting research and practice, contributing to the institute’s wider mission of advancing music pedagogy and supporting innovative educational models “made by and for musicians” .
By positioning pedagogy as a central research field, the initiative reinforces GIMUR’s commitment to developing new knowledge in music education and to building bridges between artistic practice and academic research in early training contexts.
